12/31/2023 0 Comments Carrier command 2 controls![]() Until I dived properly into the manual and read a few bits and pieces online, I was all at sea in every sense. I wasn’t kidding about that daunting learning curve either. Both things add a touch of claustrophobia to the proceedings, which I’m not sure is actually intended. When controlling vehicles, the third-person view is a little too tight to the back. Locations in the game all seem to be surrounded by a ubiquitous fog, preventing you from seeing too far no matter how high you crank the graphics settings. The lighting, water and (in particular) the weather effects are all quite terrific though distances (both draw and zoom) are accompanied by minor issues. As the images artfully arranged around these words should show, Carrier Command: Gaea Mission is looking rather swish. Well, I’m happy to confirm that Bohemia has delivered on both of those requests. In fact, that article contained this sentence: “If Bohemia re-release the game with better graphics, hotkeys and no other changes they’ll already be halfway to satisfying me.” In spite of this, I have fond recollections of sailing those ever-so-blue seas. Monochrome wire-frames, awkward controls, a lack of clear instructions and no ability to speed up time all conspired against me in the Spectrum version of the game. You may (or, somewhat ironically, may not) recall a ‘Memories’ piece I wrote about Carrier Command, detailing the troubles I had playing the game as an eight year old child. Including the somewhat daunting learning curve. Essentially, this is a shot-for-shot homage to the original Carrier Command title. Bohemia’s remake will feature two modes of play when its released later this year, and this preview gave me a look at the ‘Strategy’ option. Mod documentation from the development team is added below. The time I’ve spent with the preview code of Bohemia Interactive’s Carrier Command: Gaea Mission has confirmed something I’ve long suspected that the 1988 original was a game far ahead of its own era. ![]() Steam Workshop support, as well as usable Needlefish, were added in Patch 1.2.0. Multiplayer maps can have as many as 64 islands to fight over, and an additional four AI teams to fight against as well (four player teams plus four AI teams, for a total of eight teams per server).Įach carrier can be explored fully, from stem to stern. Each ship can be ideally crewed by four to six players. It is possible to have all sixteen players on a single carrier, though there are only nine seats on each boat. ![]() A single host can host up to sixteen players, split into up to four teams however they want. While a single carrier can be crewed by a single person, reviewers have indicated that multiplayer is far more enjoyable. The story is expressed in a series of transmissions that can be read in their entirety on the Transcripts page. The terrorist organization STANZA has hijacked another carrier, and is using it to try to destabilize the planet. The aquatic planet is host to an unmanned colony called Telos. The single player campaign has the player launch from an orbiting space station and take command of an amphibious assault ship on an unnamed planet. The game consists of both co-op and competitive multiplayer, with an option to play single player as well. This helps form a network which culminates in a fight against the enemy carrier. Captured islands form a logistics network that help players replace lost assets and equip various weapons. Players must operate interfaces from the bridge of their amphibious assault ship to deploy air and amphibious assets. Steam does not support cross-app multiplayer. However, VR players must run the VR carrier_command.exe file directly from the folder in order to play with PC players. The Steam version contains both the soundtrack, the VR version, and the PC version bundled together.Ĭrossplay between VR and PC players is possible. It was released on 10 August 2021 on Steam. Carrier Command 2, like its predecessor, is a hybrid of vehicle simulation and real time tactics. Carrier Command 2 is a sequel to the 1988 video game Carrier Command.
